Green Eggs and Ham by Dr Suess

This is the children's classic recommended for young children. However I have used it to train beginner reading in English with young Norwegian children who can already read in their own language. It's fun to read but it is also invaluable in teaching the use of the negative form of auxiliary verbs - "I would not, could not … I will not, I do not .." and how to form questions using the auxiliary - "Do you like ? Would you eat them?"
I find that children quite effortlessly learn whole pages off by heart.

The Sneetches and other Stories by

Grown-ups and children alike remember these stories long afterwards. Like all the very best stories they teach about life and living, but I have never come across stories which do this just so effectively, in such wonderful rhyming language and accompanied by such amazingly touching drawings. This is a collection of stories for children just beginning to read English.
